The cost of work related ill-health and injury

Figures produced by the Health and Safety Executive show that 36 million working days were lost in 2006/2007; 30 million to ill-health and 6 million to work place injury. Muscle and joint problems are the largest cause of work related ill-health. In addition to the obvious costs of sick pay, temporary cover, recruitment, potential legal fees and compensation, there is also the cost of low productivity, increased errors, loss of morale and the possibility of increased insurance premiums.

Reducing the cost of work related ill-health

Core Fitness & Physiotherapy has forged strong links with local business, national and international companies, where involvement is most effective during process design and implementation. Our clients include: Philips and Lanarkshire NHS

At Core Fitness & Physiotherapy our experienced team of physiotherapists can help companies reduce the cost of musculoskeletal, work related health problems by working in three areas.

Direct Physiotherapy Intervention

Onsite Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy involvement onsite allows for rapid access to assessment and treatment and reduces time off work through injury or to attend hospital appointments. It also allows for ergonomic and workplace assessments to be carried out to reduce further problems and help improve communication with all parties involved.
Onsite Massage/Stress Management
As part of an employee well being programme, Core Fitness & Physiotherapy can offer onsite, through clothes massage; a service designed to reduce stress and increase awareness of the postural strains that can build up over time and result in injury.

Offsite Physiotherapy
With 3 dedicated clinics in the Lanarkshire and Glasgow area, physiotherapy assessment and treatment can be arranged within 24 hours, significantly less than the wait for an NHS appointment. Outside this area we can arrange offsite treatment at a local affiliate physiotherapy clinic. Close communication is essential and we keep the employer fully up to date with progress.
Job Specific Functional Rehabilitation
Following injury, full rehabilitation is essential to restore normal physical function and reduce the incidence of injury reoccurrence. Core Fitness & Physiotherapy has full gymnasium facilities and staff specifically trained in exercise and fitness to help the employee regain all aspects of physical health.

Back to work programmes
If an employee has been off work for a length of time, we can offer a programme specifically designed to aid the return of the employee to work safely. This will involve assessment of the work tasks and the design of an exercise based regime to allow safe return to the work environment.

Health and Wellbeing Programmes
The endorsement of general health and wellbeing within a workforce is essential in achieving a happier, more productive team. The individual is empowered to achieve a better quality of life, prevent illness and optimises their potential at work and in everyday life.
Core Fitness & Physiotherapy is committed to promoting health and wellbeing within the workplace. This can be done via health screening, exploration of individual lifestyle and diet and exercise testing to develop an individually tailored programme.

"Training with Dave is not just about fitness it's about taking time to develop a positive mental attitude. I look forward to my sessions as much as for physical development as to the effect it has on my performance at work - and much to my surprise I really enjoy it!"
    David McGregor, Swinton

"I was getting married in August 2009 and I wanted to lose some weight. Not only to fit into my wedding dress, but to feel really good on the day. Simon gave me exercises that suited me and helped me with areas of my body I had particular problems with. I lost over two and a half stone, my dress fitted perfectly and I felt amazing. I couldn't have done it without Simon's continual support. Even when I wavered he didn't!"
    Mrs I Anderson, Lesmahagow

"The fitness sessions that Simon has put together for me are really unique and the perfect combination of cardio work, muscle toning and fun! Simon is an excellent trainer, totally motivating, patient and encouraging. I look forward to my personal training sessions every week and have seen a significant improvement in my fitness, conditioning, energy and muscle tone. I thoroughly recommend them!"
