Personal Training FAQ’s

What happens during my free initial consultation?
Your free initial consultation is a relaxed and informal meeting that allows us to explore your health and fitness goals in greater detail. This consultation is obligation-free. If by the end of the consultation you would like to go ahead and begin personal training we can book your first training session and agree upon a start date. But no matter what you decide, we hope the meeting will leave you feeling even more motivated to take action towards a healthier lifestyle!

Do I need to be physically fit to have a personal trainer?
No. Most people who come to us are either new to fitness or are returning to fitness after a period of inactivity. We will carry out a health assessment to ensure that you are medically safe to train, as well as a simple fitness test that will help to determine the level of exercise that is right for you.

How quickly can I lose weight with a motiv8 personal trainer?
Clients generally notice fat loss and muscle toning within a matter of weeks. Some clients may lose up to 14 pounds of body fat in their first month. The exact rate of weight loss will vary from client to client and is dependent on your starting weight, gender, metabolism, weight loss history and the type of training program you are following. For best results, we advise that clients follow their chosen program for a minimum of 3 months.

Doesn't weight training bulk you up?
No. Bulk only occurs with a combination of high caloric intake and specific training using extremely heavy weights. Women, particularly, have little chance of bulking up since they contain about 1/30th the hormone (testosterone) required to achieve that type of result.

Do I have to sign long-term contract?
No. We have no long-term contracts and all programs are based on month-to-month agreements.

Physiotherapy FAQ's

How much will a treatment session cost?
The initial assessment will cost £30.  Follow-up treatment sessions cost £28.

How long does a physiotherapy session last?
The initial assessment will last roughly 45 minutes- 1 hour. This will include a history taking, a thorough physical examination of the problem area and treatment. There is also time for you to ask questions. Follow-up sessions will take roughly 30 minutes.

What qualifications do your physiotherapists have?
All of our physiotherapists are members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, they are also registered with the Health Professions Council.

How often will I need to attend?
Everyone's condition differs and the severity and duration of your symptoms will depend on how many treatments you require and how you respond once treatment has started. This will be discussed with you at your first appointment. In some cases only one or two treatments are required as we provide a home exercise regime and strongly encourage self management.

Do I need a referral from my GP?
No, you do not need a referral from a GP or consultant. We normally send a letter to your GP informing them of your condition, unless you request otherwise.

What treatments are commonly used in physiotherapy?
Depending on what your condition requires we use a variety of manual therapies, electrotherapy, acupuncture and exercise/stretches.
What do I need to bring? If they are relevant bring X-rays, scan/MRI reports, referral letter and a list of any medication. Wear loose fitting clothing (although shorts are available). You may also be asked to remove items of clothing, so that our clinicians can give a full postural assessment.

Complimentary Therapies FAQ's

What should I wear to my appointments?
Your clothing will be dependent on the treatment you wish to receive; you may or may not need to undress.  Your therapist will give you privacy to undress if necessary, and you will be covered with a sheet at all times except the area being worked on.  The therapist will ensure that you are comfortable at all times.

Will the treatments interfere with my medication?
Before any treatment is carried out, your therapist will conduct a detailed consultation where you should give them as much detail as possible about your medication.  In some circumstances the therapist may ask for written recommendation from your GP before treatment commences.  Generally, complimentary therapies are designed to work alongside conventional medications and therefore should not interfere with your medication.

What treatment would best suit me?
During the consultation process you can discuss your individual needs with the therapist to ensure you are receiving the right treatment.

What should I expect during my treatment?
During the consultation the therapist will give you a detailed description of the treatment being carried out on that day.  All treatments are designed to promote relaxation; therefore you should feel comfortable, calm and relaxed.

Where are my treatments carried out?
Your treatment session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room.  Soft music may be played to help you relax.  You will lie on a plinth especially designed for your comfort.

How often should I receive treatment?
Frequency is dependent on the client’s goals for the sessions.  A typical approach is to receive treatment weekly for three to four weeks and then begin to space the sessions further apart as improvements are noted.  For those without specific health complaints a rule of thumb is monthly or every six weeks for ‘maintenance’ sessions or purely as relaxation treats.

How will I feel after my treatment?
Most people feel very relaxed.  Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity.  After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days.

How do I receive the best benefits from my treatment?
Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a treatment, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your treatment.    Some therapists recommend a hot Epsom salt bath that encourages the release of toxins that may have been stirred up from your treatment.  It is also advised to avoid stimulants such as tea, coffee and alcohol for 24 hours after treatment.

Simon gave me exercises that suited me and helped me with areas of my body I had particular problems with. I lost over two and a half stone, my dress fitted perfectly and I felt amazing. I couldn't have done it without Simon's continual support. Even when I wavered he didn't!"
